My name is Sergey V. Babakhanov, and I would like to announce my candidacy for the Mequon-Thiensville School Board. I am a first-generation Armenian immigrant to the United States. Mequon has been my home for the past 20 years. Throughout my years in Mequon, I have seen a lot of positive changes within our school district. I believe, however, there is always room for improvement and support.

As a father of four children, it is my duty and privilege to serve my community to enhance our school system by applying my knowledge in risk management, security, and the safety fields to help boost the day-to-day operations of our schools and the well-being of our students, staff, and grounds.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from UW - Milwaukee in 2002. I continued my professional development and received four associate degrees in insurance from The Institutes. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from UW - Milwaukee in 2002. I continued my professional development and received four associate degrees in insurance from The Institutes. My Risk Management education is from ASIS International and Alison. As a risk management and insurance professional I held various roles with progressive responsibilities investigating insurance fraud, embezzlement, and organized retail crime rings in the Milwaukee area. I worked with the Brown Deer Police Department, Glendale Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department, and The United States Marshals Service to provide safety for our community.

Children are the future of the world. They are going to be the leaders of tomorrow and are going to make choices that will directly affect our generation. Children are pliable, so it is up to us to mold them well and send them in the right direction.

I want to ensure students are getting a quality education that will build their foundation for the next step in their lives and actually help improve their characters and build a well-educated workforce.

My agenda includes moving the district forward by enhancing our educational programs, helping all students excel to the best of their ability, encouraging families to be more engaged in their education, sports, music, and clubs, and promoting a safe and healthy lifestyle. I would like to bring the community together to accomplish this agenda. My goal is to review the current curriculum, procedures, policies, protocols, school meal programs and finances to find ways to address any issues and enhance a safe learning environment to benefit students, parents, and staff.

For many students a positive academic environment is increasingly harder to obtain. This is mainly due to their lack of safety. Whether it be inside the classroom or out. Unfavorable situations at home, psychological stability, physical dangers and violence all contribute to this evident shortage.

In a safe classroom, teachers can provide education and guidance, promote positive student behaviors and prevent negative behaviors and accidents. Yet, many factors impact classroom safety, including physical distractions and obstacles and the actions of adults and children.

Safety in the schools is a top priority. I want the school to be secure and safe for all students, teachers and parents. To that end, my agenda includes moving the district forward by examining the current safety standards and enhancing those with some fresh perspectives and efficient improvements.
