My Story

My name is Sergey V. Babakhanov, and I would like to announce my candidacy for the Mequon-Thiensville School Board. I am a first-generation Armenian immigrant to the United States. Mequon has been my home for the past 20 years. Throughout my years in Mequon, I have seen a lot of positive changes within our school district. I believe, however, there is always room for improvement and support. As a father of four children, it is my duty and privilege to serve my community to enhance our school system by applying my knowledge in risk management, security, and the safety fields to help boost the day-to-day operations of our schools and the well-being of our students, staff, and grounds.

My agenda includes moving the district forward by enhancing our educational programs, helping all students excel to the best of their ability, encouraging families to be more engaged in their education, sports, music, and clubs, and promoting a safe and healthy lifestyle. I would like to bring the community together to accomplish this agenda by keeping the politics out of Mequon-Thiensville School District.

My goal is to review current curriculum, procedures, policies, protocols, school meals, finances, and find ways to address any issues and enhance a safe learning environment to benefit students, parents, and staff.

Our children have attended MTSD for the past 10 years at the elementary, middle and high school levels. My wife and I are very involved in the schools where our children attend. We are members of the PTOs, volunteer frequently in classrooms, attend field trips, and are an orchestra family. I attend school board meetings in person and virtually, when available. We have great relationships with our kids’ teachers and respect them, knowing they work hard for our kids.

My Background

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from UW - Milwaukee. I also have four associate degrees in insurance from The Institutes. My Risk Management education is from ASIS International and Alison. As a risk management and insurance professional I held various roles with progressive responsibilities investigating insurance fraud, embezzlement and organized retail crime rings in Milwaukee area. I worked with the Brown Deer Police Department, Glendale Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department and The United States Marshals Service to provide safety for our community.
